Seasoning your wooden chopping boards with coconut oil.

I got a very much needed new recycled Bamboo chopping board today and the first thing I did was season it with coconut oil to protect and nourish it.  This is something you can do with all your wooden chopping boards regularly to season and sanitise. It is quick and easy.

Seasoning Your Chopping Board

  • Thoroughly clean your chopping board with warm water and non-toxic dishwashing liquid.  Towel dry.
  • Wipe with apple cider vinegar to sanitize and alkalise.  Rinse gently with warm water to remove smell. Pat dry.
  • Take a TB of organic coconut oil into your hand.  Using fingertips massage and buff into wood, coating evenly all over.  Use more depending on size of board.
  • Cover front and back. Leave to sit for a few hours at least, so the wood absorbs the oil, overnight if possible.  If the wood is really dry, it will soak up the oil very quickly so use a little more.
  • After sitting time, wipe the excess oil gently off with paper towel or a soft cloth.  Re-apply if there was nothing to wipe off and repeat the process. If your board has never been conditioned or has dried out, it may take a couple coats.
  • Re-apply coconut oil until it doesn’t soak in anymore and there is oil to wipe off after sitting.

It's that easy!

Now the board is clean, fresh and ready to use with quadruple the lifespan it would've had!
