Do you really need a reason to make nuts yummier? Well here it is. Even my kids love this spicy mixture and it is a great way to spice up nuts that you don't like too much plain, so that you get all the goodness of a wider variety!
Takes about 10 mins all up and they are divine, trust me! The only problem is that you can't just have a couple... and they go perfect with a glass of your favourite beer or wine too (if you are so inclined!)
I made these for our NYE party and they were a gigantic hit! Served hot they are scrumptious and cold is just as good. This recipe came from a combination of my favourite paleo sites but I can't quite remember which one, just so you know, I follow just eat real food, elana's pantry, empowered sustenance, wholefood simply, and many more.
When you eat clean, whole, unadulterated foods, that are coated in sugar, colours, preservatives, additives and transfats, you reignite your tastebuds and food never tastes so good!
SPICY ROASTED NUTS
2 cups of your favourite nuts (I used macadamias, almonds, cashews, pecans and hazelnuts)
1/3 cup coconut oil
1 tsp each of sea salt, hot paprika (mild is fine), black pepper
1 handful of fresh rosemary finely chopped
Simply roast the nuts until golden brown. I activate my nuts, to release the digestive enzymes, by soaking in salty water overnight, so when I am slowly drying them afterwards, I simply leave them in the oven a little longer, and turn up the heat until they release their yummy smell and start to brown, and then they are done.
Tip them into a bowl and add the coconut oil and spices. No need to pre-melt the oil as the hot nuts will melt it pronto. Serve straight away if you can while they are still releasing their wonderful aromas!
Nuts are obviously a great source of good fats to feed our brain and body, adding the coconut oil adds to this, and the spices provide their own benefits including detoxifying, thermogenesis and nourishment to the body.
